Liz Buxton has been appointed the new executive director of the Reedville Fisherman’s Museum. A graduate of St. Margaret’s School in Tappahannock, and the College of Charleston in South Carolina, she grew up in Middlesex County and other Middle Peninsula areas, as well as Newport News. She has a passion for the history and culture of the area, including sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and Rappahannock River.
In addition, she comes to the Reedville Museum with an extensive background in nonprofit organization management, environmental conservation and historic preservation, having served as past executive director of Valleys Planning Council in Baltimore, South River Federation in Edgewater, Md., and the Maryland Environmental Trust.
Buxton began her work in Reedville the first of the year and is presently residing in Urbanna at the home of her parents, Mary Wakefield and Joseph T. “Chip” Buxton III. One of her first projects is to obtain grant funding to repair the historic skipjack, Claud W. Somers, so that she can again participate in Education Day at the 2022 Urbanna Oyster Festival this November.
