Decision looks near on proposed Urbanna Town Pier

by Tom Chillemi –

A showdown on a proposed pier at the end of Virginia Street is set for Thursday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. when the Urbanna Town Council will conduct a public hearing on building the pier.

Council’s decision on the pier is anticipated for the following meeting on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m., said Town Administrator Garth Wheeler during his report to town council at the Jan.13 meeting.

Further, Wheeler’s report noted the “options being considered for the pier will be made public as soon as possible” prior to the Feb. 10 meeting.

For years, some town residents, and council members, have been divided on the need for a pier, which would be located about 75 yards from the Town of Urbanna Marina. The cost has been estimated at more than $50,000.
