Birds braved biting wind blasts during Monday’s snowstorm to feast at bird feeders that include a ring of peanuts on which this cardinal (above) is perched.
Snow sledder Sissy MacFarlane (right), 3, of Topping cruises down a hillside Monday on her Pop Pop and Grandma Bet’s Middlesex County farm. The day’s icy snow wasn’t the best for sledding, but Sissy and other enthusiastic Middlesex youngsters still managed to make the most of the Snow Day event, which canceled school in Middlesex through Tuesday. The fast moving snowstorm — the area’s first of the season — dropped four to six inches on Middlesex after transitioning from rain. Many areas were covered in sheets of ice overnight Monday as temperatures stayed below freezing.
