Middle Peninsula African-American Genealogical and Historical Society (MPAAGHS) will present its monthly meeting virtually on Saturday, Jan. 8, at 11 a.m. The meeting will feature a talk by Dr. Shelley Viola Murphy entitled, “Are You Ready? Prepping for the 1950 Federal Population Census.”
Census records are not public until 72 years after they are recorded. This presentation will share what one needs to know about the 1950 census and how to prepare for its anticipated April 1 release.
A genealogist for more than 30 years, Dr. Murphy, a.k.a. “familytreegirl,” conducts genealogy workshops at local, state, and national conferences. She is known for her inspiring and interactive “SO WHAT” with genealogical research, along with interesting problem-solving methodology lectures.
