A car struck and killed a Topping man who was walking along General Puller Highway (Route 33) just west of Hartfield Saturday evening. The man, Leon Keyser, 42, was walking westbound near Bob’s Hole Road (Route 625) when he was hit by a westbound 2007 Toyota Yaris, driven by Pamela E. Morris, according to a news release by Sgt. Michelle Anaya, of the Virginia State Police. The emergency communications center had received a 5:27 p.m. call that a pedestrian had been struck.
Keyser, of the 800 block of Regent Road, was unimpaired at the time of the crash, but was wearing dark clothing and walking in the roadway, acscording to the release. He died upon impact. Notification was made to next of kin.
The driver and her juvenile passenger were uninjured in the crash. No charges were filed, said Sgt. Anaya on Saturday.
The westbound lane of General Puller Highway was blocked during the investigation and traffic was rerouted.
It is believed to be the second fatal road crash so far this year in Middlesex County.
