Christchurch to host 32nd John Stone hoops event

Christchurch School will host the 32nd annual John Stone Basketball Tournament the weekend of Dec. 10 and 11 in Yarbrough Gymnasium on the school’s campus. The tournament is presented each year in memory of John Stone, a 1986 Christchurch School graduate.

This year, the boys varsity basketball team will host Essex High School, Norfolk Christian, and Williamsburg Christian Academy. 

The tournament will tip off on Friday, Dec. 10, at 5 p.m. with Essex vs. Norfolk Christian. Christchurch will play Williamsburg Christian at 7 p.m.

The tournament Consolation Round will start on Saturday, Dec. 11, at noon and the championship game is at 2 p.m.

The tournament is free and open to the public. Spectators will be required to mask.

The Christchurch boys basketball team is coached by CJ Kelly. Kelly is a learning specialist at the school, where he also teaches Math, coaches football, and is a dorm parent.

Assisting Kelly are Don Harris of Urbanna and John Alachnowicz of Irvington.
