Elementary school’s new $1.69 million units installed

Off with the old and on with the new as workers on Wednesday, Nov. 24, removed the old Middlesex Elementary School (MES) heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) units at Locust Hill from the roof via crane and replaced the old with new units. The Middlesex Elementary School (MES) $1.69 million heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) project is moving forward. On Wednesday, Nov. 24, old HVAC units were removed and two new rooftop HVAC units were installed at MES.

“Unfortunately, (none of the) units arrived in time for installation before school started (in August) so we had to phase in the installation work later because of the downtime needed in the building,” said Dr. Seitz.

On Nov. 24, the day before Thanksgiving, workers on top of the roof at MES dismantled the old units and hoisted them down with a large crane onto flatbed trailers and replaced two of the old units with new ones. The north side of the school building was surrounded by tractor trailer trucks with flatbed trailers.

The MES HVAC project has been on the drawing board and on both the MCBS and MCSB capital improvement plans for a number of years.
