Chargers, Raiders to square off

by Larry Chowning –

The Middlesex High School varsity boys basketball team showed promise with a 75-70 win over the New Kent Cavaliers in a scrimmage on Thursday, Nov. 18.

The Chargers are being coached this season by longtime junior varsity coach Benny Bagby, who has moved up to varsity coaching. “Our team is well balanced this year with size and speed,” said Bagby.

The MHS basketball season was sidelined last year due to COVID-19 concerns. “We missed a year but the boys are anxious and excited about the start of this season,” said Bagby.

“We played well against New Kent and they are a much larger school than we are,” he said. “If we play as a team on the court this year, I think we will have a successful season.”

The Chargers will open regular season play on Monday, Nov. 29, at home against the Rappahannock Raiders.
