All dogs in parade must have current rabies vaccination

Ellie, a Bernese mountain dog owned by Vicki Satterwhite of Urbanna, romps in the snow — a favorite “Berner” pastime — in this file photo. The breed traces its origin to snowy Bern, Switzerland. Ellie was judged the Most Beautiful entry in the 2019 Urbanna Christmas Pets and Children’ Parade. (The 2020 parade was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.) Sadly, pretty Ellie passed away this past summer following spay surgery complications. (Contributed)

For those attending the Middlesex Kiwanis Club-sponsored 2021 Urbanna Pets and Children Christmas Parade with your dog, a welcome is extended. However, parade organizers ask you to please note you will need to have a current dog license number or proof of a current rabies vaccination in order to sign up to participate. Your dog must be non-aggressive, on a leash and under your control at all times. Owners will be legally liable for their pet’s behavior during the event.

The parade is mostly for Yule-costumed dogs, but some years miniature horses have participated. There is no charge to participate. Prizes will be awarded for various categories, including Most Beautiful, Cutest, Smallest and Largest.

The Saturday, Dec. 4 parade sign-up starts at 10 a.m. in Taber Park, which is located at Rappahannock Avenue and Bonner Street in Urbanna. The parade is at 11 a.m.

This is the fourth Urbanna Pet and Children’s Christmas Parade and the first since 2019. There was no parade in 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns.
