The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) approved installing a bulkhead and parking lot at the Whiting Creek public landing and ramp at Locust Hill. Supervisors voted to approve a $70,392 contract with William Wills Contractor Inc. of Hartfield for a “sand and oyster shell fill” parking lot and bulkhead at the public landing. The funds had already been budgeted in the fiscal year 2021-2022 budget.

Along with the general public use of the pier, the ramp and parking lot have created parking issues at the site. MCBS has pledged to improve waterfront public access throughout the county at the few county public landings in Middlesex.

The project has been in the works for a number of years going back to when the late Jack Miller was MCBS chairman.

Supervisors are also working with the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission (MPPDC) to find funding to pay for engineering costs for the Mill Creek boat pier and ramp.

The landing has a longtime history of silting and the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), which maintains the landing, has expressed an interest in turning the maintenance of the landing over to the county.
