Evans, St. John fastest for MHS at state CC meet

Region A faired well in the Virginia 1A state cross country meet on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Salem as Cameron Stearns of Mathews High School won the individual 5K boys race with a 16:40.80 time and Hailey Smith of Lancaster High School won the girls individuals honors (20:09.10).

As a team the Blue Devil boys finished fourth with 123 points and West Point finished ninth, 210 points and Lancaster High School finished 10th, 241 points. Galileo High School won the boys team competition with 75 points. Lebanon was second, 86 points and George Wythe (Wytheville), third, 100 points.

Middlesex High School had four runners qualify for the race, but it takes five runners to make up a cross country team. Wyatt Evans was the Chargers top runner. He finished 49th out of 100 runners. Evans ran 19:26.50 over the 5K race.

Vicente Reyes was right behind Evans. Reyes finished 51st with a 19:28.50. Nathan Powell was 82nd with a 20:57.10 time and Erik Graulich was 90th (22:22.80).
