Officer’s name, other details not released to public; state police investigating
by Tom Chillemi –
On Saturday, Oct. 23, Middlesex School Superintendent Dr. Tracy Seitz sent an email to families of students and school staff stating that Middlesex High School’s school resource officer had been “dismissed” from those duties and is no longer at the school.
“Recently a report that was made to staff at Middlesex High School led to an investigation by the Middlesex County Public Schools (MCPS) and the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office,” wrote Dr. Seitz. “The investigation resulted in the School Resource Officer at MHS being dismissed from his duties there.” The email did not name the officer.
The former “school resource officer,” terminology used in referring to a deputy based in a school, is no longer connected with the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, said Major M.E. Sampson.
The case is being investigated by the Virginia State Police and Child Protective Services at the request of the sheriff’s office, said Maj. Sampson.
