On Sept. 8, Gov. Ralph Northam approved new Department of Labor regulations governing employee protection from COVID-19 in the workplace, Urbanna Town Council Attorney Andrea Erard informed council at its Sept. 9 meeting.
The regulations require employers, including the town council, to create a policy to protect employees from workplace exposure to COVID-19, Erard explained.
Under the regulations, employers must require employees who are not fully vaccinated and fully vaccinated employees in areas of “substantial or high” community transmission, and otherwise at-risk employees to wear a mask covering the nose and mouth while indoors.
High transmission rate
As of Sept. 7, Middlesex County was considered to be a “high” area of transmission according to Virginia Health Department data, said Erard. This means all employees must wear a mask until the transmission rate drops…
