A Topping woman died Sept. 1 after the car she was driving struck a tree. Julie Ann Tucker, 46, was traveling westbound on Farys Mill Road (Route 606) west of Fletcher Road (Route 607) in Gloucester County when her 2011 Toyota Scion crossed the centerline and ran off the roadway about 6:22 p.m., according to a Virginia State Police (VSP) news release.
After striking the tree, the car overturned multiple times, ejecting Tucker and her passenger, Jimmy L. West. Neither was wearing a seat belt.
Both Tucker and West were transported to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester with serious life-threatening injuries. Tucker succumbed to her injuries at the hospital later that evening.
Speed was a contributing factor in the single-vehicle crash, the VSP reported. Currently it is unknown if alcohol contributed to the crash.
