Middlesex corn crop looking good this summer

The timing of rain for corn has been perfect this summer, said Evan Perry, manager of Corbin Hall Farm near Water View.

Rain in the first week of July is critical when corn is pollenating and the farm got 4.5 inches of the life giving liquid. That was followed by an inch of rain in each of the two following weeks, which helps the ears fill out.

Farmer Ronnie Russell said he hasn’t seen corn like this since the early 1970s. Above, Perry, who is 6’ 2” tall is dwarfed by the corn stand. (Photo by Tom Chillemi)
