Earlier this month, U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman, R-1st Dist., hosted a public meeting at Piankatank Ruritan Club with senior Coast Guard officials on the potential suspension of off-season operations at Station Milford Haven with almost 100 concerned Virginians in attendance, including many from Middlesex County. Throughout the meeting, Coast Guard officials heard the heartfelt concerns of watermen, sportsmen, boaters and more who will be placed at potential risk by this proposed suspension of operations.

Following the event, Rep. Wittman remarked: “Folks along the coast of the Chesapeake Bay know our waters are the lifeblood of our communities. Those out on the water during the coldest months of the year must have a reliable source of timely rescue, should they find themselves in an emergency situation. During months in which hypothermia can kill within minutes, this requirement becomes all the more essential.”
