Betty Jean Sneed-Womac Lucy (Mama), 83, of Hartfield, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, Aug. 16, 2021, surrounded by her children.
Betty was born on Aug. 31, 1937 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, friend and devout Christian. She was caring, loving, funny and strong, coupled with a “try-me” attitude. To say she was feisty is an understatement, and you never doubted where you stood with her.
Betty also had the most hilarious sayings and one-liners. She would say, “always count your blessings, say your prayers and get eight hours of sleep, if you’re ugly — get nine.”
She was referred to once as a hillbilly for which she smiled and replied, “there are two kinds of people in this world, hillbillies and sons of b*tches.” She lived her life to make sure that everyone felt loved, welcomed, and included. She was a great cook, and there was always an empty seat at her dinner table for guests. She was simply the best.
She is survived by her children who made up the entirety of her world, Debra Hodges (Taylor), Ricky Newman (Beth), Angie Pollard (Brent) and Tim Driver (Diana); along with her sister, Brenda Hundley; and brothers, Roy Sneed and Donnie Womac; and lots of loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her baby boy, Larry Newman; husband, Ralph Lucy; parents, Odell Pearson Sneed, Joe Sneed, and Woodrow Womac; sister, Joanne Dunn; and brothers, Donald and James Sneed.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Chris Grogg and the staff at English Meadows for taking such tremendous care of Mama.
Family and friends are invited to say their final goodbyes to Mama at a graveside service planned for 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22 in Sunny Slope Cemetery, 2400 King William Ave., West Point. Please observe all necessary precautions when attending services.
