Sailboat races return to Urbanna

Hampton One sailboat races are coming back to Urbanna Aug. 13-15 as the Hampton One National meet is being presented Friday through Sunday on the Rappahannock River. A longtime tradition of Hampton One Sailboat racing on Urbanna Creek and Rappahannock River will be back again this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 13-15, as 15 Hampton One design sailboats  compete in the Hampton National sailing meet.

“We are expecting 15 Hampton One Design sailboats which was designed in 1935 for the Hampton Yacht Club (HYC) and quickly became the most popular racing sailboat on the Chesapeake Bay with active fleets from Norfolk to Annapolis and dozens of places in between including Urbanna and Christchurch School, which each had a fleet,” said Latane Montague, organizer of the event.
