MC supervisors: Keep CG station open

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution on Tuesday, Aug. 3, requesting that the United States Coast Guard (USCG) keep Station Milford Haven in Mathews open year-around.

Pinetop representative Lud Kimbrough reported to the board that due to intervention by U.S. Rep. Congressman Rob Wittman, R-1st Dist., USCG has extended the public’s comment period on downgrading Station Milford Haven to seasonal duty.

Kimbrough said he attended a public meeting on Monday, Aug. 2, at the Piankatank Ruritan Club building in Mathews and that Wittman announced at the meeting that public comment on the issue, that was supposed to end Aug. 3, will be extended for seven more weeks.
