The 2021 Virginia Agricultural Expo on August 5 will be presented at Corbin Hall Farm, “the birthplace of ag expos,” said Ronnie Russell, who has worked this farm more than 50 years.
In 1959 W.R. Harrell of St. Brides in Norfolk County purchased Corbin Hall Farm, situated on the Rappahannock River and LaGrange Creek, near Water View.
About 1963, Harrell offered his first “field day” at his farm. It was a time for farmers from far and wide to get together to learn about the latest science and technology of farming. This year’s ag expo will be no different.
Harrell had started a liquid fertilizer business in 1955 and built one of the first liquid fertilizer plants on the east coast. “It was the coming thing,” said Russell. “Everybody was tired of lifting 200-pound bags of fertilizer.” Harrell also had done well in the chicken processing business and…
