The Middlesex Senior Softball All-Star team was eliminated in the third round of the state tournament.
Middlesex is a young team and Manager-Coach Chucky Oliver said he’s optimistic about the future. “I can’t say enough about these kids. We were by far the youngest team in the tournament, but from a talent standpoint, we were right there with most of the teams,” Coach Oliver said.
The Middlesex All-Stars team only has one girl that will “age out” and not be eligible next season. “I completely expect for us to have a shot to run this back several times in the next few years,” Coach Oliver said.
Twin Springs 8, Middlesex 7
Middlesex, the 2021 District 15 champs, fell to Twin Springs 8-7 on July 2 in game one of the 2021 State All-Star Tournament hosted by Luray Little League in Page County.
The Middlesex bats were silenced by the Twin Springs pitcher through the first three innings.
Middlesex’s Courtney Harrow had a single in the second, but that was all Middlesex could muster. Twin Springs would go down in order in the first, but would put a run on the board in the second inning with a solo home run. In the top of the fourth Twin Springs added to their lead plating 3 more runs for a 4-0 lead.
The Middlesex County bats started to wake up in the fourth. Libby Oliver walked, followed by a Courtney Jessie’s double that scored Oliver. Courtney Harrow again singled, scoring Courtney Jessie. Harrow stole second and third base and scored on a wild pitch to cut Twin Springs’ lead to 4-3.
Twin Springs scored twice more in the top…
