On June 24, the Urbanna Town Council approved a $765,000 budget for fiscal year 2021-2022 that began July 1, 2021. However, the adopted budget is $30,100 less than the proposed budget that was advertised in the Southside Sentinel on June 3, 2021. The advertised proposed budget totals $795,100. This discrepancy was discovered after the meeting by Sentinel reporter Tom Chillemi, who brought it the attention of the finance committee chairman, Councilor Bill Goldsmith.
Goldsmith checked and later explained that the Taber Fund income had been left out, and that council can approve a budget amendment to correct the omission.
Council did not follow its former procedure of reciting each of the budget funds. Instead they adopted a resolution that listed the total and referred to the attached budget.
There are no increases in taxes or water rates…
