Lower UMC presents $1,000 scholarships to Murray, Sochor

Hartfield’s Sara Murray is MHS valedictorian, plans to double major at William and Mary; Port Haywood’s Julia Sochor pursuing master’s

Lower United Methodist Church has a tradition of offering financial aid to student members who have been accepted to an institute of higher learning. The Scholarship Committee awarded two scholarships this year.

Sara Murray was awarded a $1,000 Piankatank Shores Scholarship, which is renewable for up to four years. She recently graduated from Middlesex High School as valedictorian and will be attending William and Mary College in Williamsburg. She plans to double major in Business and American Politics with a goal of pursuing a career in tax law. Sara is the daughter of Paul and Karen Murray of Hartfield.

Julia Sochor was also awarded a $1,000 Piankatank Shores Scholarship. Julia graduated from Mathews High School in 2018 and recently graduated from New England College Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Psychology. She will be using her scholarship to pursue a graduate degree in Elementary Education and Special Education at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. She is looking forward to a career as a Special Education teacher. Julia is the daughter of John and Claudia Sochor of Port Haywood.
