A coalition of Middle Peninsula religious and civic organizations will present the second annual Gloucester celebration of Juneteenth on Saturday, June 19, from 5:30-7 p.m. at Gloucester First United Baptist Church, 6188 George Washington Memorial Highway, Gloucester.
The event will be conducted outdoors on the church grounds and will be simulcast over the radio on 102.7 FM.
The theme of this year’s event is “CommUNITY and Culture — History and Heritage.”
Juneteenth commemorates the day that the last enslaved people in the Confederate states were informed that they had been emancipated.
Musical selections will be performed by the Gloucester/Mathews Male Chorus, and several young people will recite poetry and other reflections…
