Eyed for Saluda — but some oppose

Chairman of the Middlesex Foundation Bruce DeSimone announced to the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) on June 1 that the loss of U.S. Department of Housing and Community (USDHC) development grant funds will stop any further progress on building workforce housing units behind the Cooks Corner Office Complex. (CCOC).

The workforce housing project was to provide reasonable rentable homes for school teachers, sheriff’s office personnel and other Middlesex County employees moving into the county and seeking affordable housing.

The workforce housing portion of the grant was tied to a public-private partnership agreement to build a brewpub on the old Rappahannock Central Elementary School grounds at Cooks Corner, in front of the Middlesex Pet Friends for Life Dog Park.

DeSimone explained that when brewpub developers decided not to continue with the project because of a COVID-19 environment that meant funding to build the workforce housing was lost…
