Surge into playoffs
by Larry Chowning –
The Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity soccer team cruised past the Mathews Blue Devils 8-0 on Wednesday, June 2, in its final regular home game of the season.
“I loved how we started the game on the front foot, as we’ve typically started games a bit slowly,” said Head Coach Macky Hall. “Marek (Hanscom) was a good boost at striker as we had to deal with an injury issue and needed to solve our finishing in the box, which has been a struggle all season.”
“I was happy with this game for lots of reasons,” said the coach. “We came in with the objective of cleaning up give-aways in our end of the field. We nailed that. We also found some players in new positions that will give us options as we head into the postseason. Certainly, our best game of the season to this point.”
The Chargers are undefeated at 6-0 and have outscored opponents so far 34-5. The Chargers played Rappahannock away on Monday, June 7, and Northumberland away on Wednesday, June 9, in their last regular season games of the year.
