The 61-foot Nellie Crockett, left, (1925) and 55-foot F.D. Crockett (1924) were “on the hard” last week at Deltaville Boatyard. The Nellie Crockett is owned by Ted and Mimi Parish of Georgetown, Md. The Nellie normally gets its annual maintenance done at a railway closer to home, but foreclosure issues at that yard brought the Parishes south to find a yard capable of hauling a 60- by 20-foot wooden boat. The F.D. Crockett is owned by the Deltaville Maritime Museum and owners of both boats are getting ready to participate in the 2021 Chesapeake Bay Buy Boat Rendezvous in July. “This is the first time we can find a record of these boats being on land together,” Deltaville Maritime Museum (DMM) spokesman Bill Powell said this week. “The Crocketts, one of the original families of Tangier Island, have been a major player in the history of the commerce and fisheries of the Chesapeake Bay.” DMM is the F.D. Crockett’s “Homeport.” The boats are scheduled to come to the Town of Urbanna marina in July. Both boats are on the National Historic Landmarks List. (Photo by Larry Chowning)
