Supervisors to resume in-person meetings

by Larry Chowning –

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) agreed Tuesday, May 4, to resume open, in-person, public board meetings and to allow the public to do business inside courthouse buildings, providing face coverings are worn.

The board accomplished this by not renewing an ordinance made necessary by COVID-19 that the board approved in March 2020. The ordinance created an “emergency procedure to ensure continuity of county government” and it allowed public meetings be conducted in a “virtual” setting. The ordinance had to be renewed by May for virtual meetings to continue.

However, the board agreed to amend its by-laws to allow a hybrid situation where two members of the board can attend virtually if they have a personal conflict or an emergency.

Supervisors have not decided if the board will continue to allow its meetings to be viewed by the general public using Zoom.
