The Middlesex County School Board (MCSB) voted Wednesday, May 5, to accept the resignation of School Superintendent Peter Gretz and on Monday, May 10, voted to hire current Middlesex Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tracy Seitz to fill the post.

In an email on May 5 to the MCPS community, Dr. Gretz said, “I will be leaving Middlesex this June. I have accepted the offer to become the next superintendent of the Fluvanna County public school system and will begin my new role July 1.

“I am so grateful to have served the Middlesex community and to have had the privilege of navigating challenges and celebrating the many joys with you,” he wrote.

At the end of the May 10 school board meeting the board made a surprise announcement that Dr. Seitz was hired. “This is a case where we are so pleased with the job Dr. Gretz has done that we want someone (as our administrator) who knows what has been going on to move forward.”

Dr. Seitz was educated in the Middlesex County Public School system, and has been a teacher and administrator in the Middlesex school system for many years. The Sentinel will have a story on Dr. Seitz’s career in next week’s paper.
