The Middlesex High School Spanish Honor Society conducted an Easter-theme raffle on Wednesday, March 31. Tickets were sold for $1 each. Thanks to generous donations from local businesses, organizers were able to raffle off 10 gift baskets with a variety of items.
The MHS Spanish Honor Society has 21 members. Each year it chooses an organization to sponsor. This year, students chose to donate to the Middlesex County Volunteer Fire Department (MCVFD) in honor of their classmate, Junior Firefighter Grayson Shelton, 16, of Deltaville, who passed away in January. This year the society raised $1,600 for the fire department and presented a check to the MCVFD.
Grayson’s mother, Susan Shelton, and principal, Susan Fleet, as well as other well-wishers, attended the poignant presentation ceremony at the MCVFD firehouse in Urbanna.
Spanish Honor Society reps extended their thanks and appreciation to all of the businesses who made this possible. The businesses include, Horn’s Middlesex Ace Hardware, Barbour Printing, Baylands Family Credit Union, Big Oak Cafe, Bubba’s Shrimp Shack, Hurd’s Hardware, Los Portales, Mi Jalisco, Nick’s Spaghetti and Steakhouse, Old Dominion Eye Care, Portside Grill, River Birch, Roda Mill Designs, Sharp’s Energy, Shear Pleasure, Up South and Urbanna Market.
