
Multiple dogs perish in blaze

Fire quickly consumed an older house at Church View on April 20. Several dogs perished in the blaze, but no people were injured.
The older house was “balloon construction,” where the wall interior is open and goes to the attic without a “fire stop,” which is a horizontal piece of wood between the vertical wall studs.
The front of the house was fully engulfed in flames when the first fire units arrived on scene, said Chief Billy Collier of the Upper Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department (UMVFD). It took about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control, he said.
Several dogs were lost in the fire, wrote Diane Crockett in a Facebook post on April 21. Crockett, who lived in the house, wrote she lost all of her personal dogs and “Pit Road foster and sanctuary dogs,” except for three dogs that were spared.
