MHS VOLLEYBALL WINS REGION CHAMPIONSHIP

Jubilant members of the Middlesex High School volleyball team members crowd together in the MHS gym Friday and hoist the Region 1A trophy moments after defeating Rappahannock to win the first MHS region volleyball championship in more than a decade. But the Charger girls storybook season came to an end this past Tuesday night at Riverheads High School in the opening round of the State Group A Tournament. Middlesex was defeated 3-1 by the Lady Gladiators. It was the first loss for the squad, which posted a 15-1 record for the season. Riverheads, located near Staunton, has been the state runner up the past two seasons.

Unbeaten Middlesex captures region v’ball crown for first time in more than decade

The Middlesex High School (MHS) Lady Charger volleyball team won the Region 1A Tournament on Friday, April 16, defeating Rappahannock in three sets. It was the first time since 2010 that a MHS volleyball team has claimed the region championship.

The Lady Chargers also won the Tidewater District regular season title going 12-0.

On Friday, Middlesex avenged its loss last season to Rappahannock in the Region 1A Tournament, winning 25-14, 25-21 and 25-17.

“Winning the region was something we wanted to check off the list,” said Lady Charger Head Coach Brian Walton.

There are seven seniors on the Lady Chargers squad and many have played together for several years. This experience was a big factor in the win against Rappahannock, said Coach Walton.
