Fairfield roadwork set for start in May

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Residency Administrator Joyce McGowan reported at the April 6 Middlesex County Board of Supervisors meeting that work is expected to begin on Fairfield Landing Road (Route 708) in May.

Fairfield Landing Road leads to Fairfield Landing, a public landing on the Piankatank River owned by Middlesex County. The road runs right along the edge of the river and erosion in the bank and in the road caused VDOT to close the road in November 2020.

Erosion has been an issue before as VDOT officials closed Route 708 several years ago because of a much worse washout problem…
