MHS golfers to compete in April 19 state tourney

The Middlesex High School (MHS) golf team will compete in the 2021 state tournament on Monday, April 19 at Pete Dye River Golf course of Virginia Teach in Radford.

The MHS team advanced to the state tournament by winning the team championship at the Region A meet on Tuesday, April 13 at the Golden Eagle Golf Course in Irvington.

At the region meet, all-state performer Peyton Lambert shot an 81 to pace Middlesex. Lambert finished 14th individually as a freshman last year in the Class 1 Virginia High School League Golf Tournament to gain all-state honors.

Others to score in the region meet were Garrison Robins who shot a 98; Thomas Wilson, 100; Linton Robins, 102; Hudson McMinn; 113 and Jackson Murray shot a 119 score.

As a team, Middlesex won the region team title with a 381 score beating Lancaster, second, 384; Rappahannock, third, 408; and Northumberland, fourth 459.
