Subdivisions can restrict gunfire, if enough object

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Tuesday, April 6, to give Middlesex County homeowners living in residential subdivisions the right to decide if gunfire is unsafe in their neighborhood.

The new Middlesex County subdivision policy states that residential subdivisions with lot sizes fewer than five acres support the prohibitions of outdoor shooting of firearms in their neighborhood for safety reasons.

“If two-thirds or more of the owners in the community support the prohibition of shooting firearms, then the community shall submit the names and contact information of the persons who support the prohibition to the office of the Middlesex County administrator,” states the ordinance.

County staff will then verify the names and property ownership and the supervisor representing that community shall present the community’s request…
