Meals on Wheels receives a salute

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors voted to declare the month of March as the 19th annual March for Meals month as a way to thank all those involved in Meals on Wheels.

At the March 2 supervisors meeting, Bay Aging Director Kathy Vesley-Massey said that the program annually delivers 18,000 meals to older and chronically ill people in Middlesex.

Middlesex has one of the oldest populations in the state and United States, said Vesley-Massey. “Ninety percent of older adults want to age in their own homes and this helps them remain at home,” she said.

The resolution was unanimously approved by supervisors and signed by Chairman Wayne Jessie. It states that “Meals on Wheels established March for Meals campaign in March 2002 to recognize this historic month, the importance of the Older Americans Act Nutrition Programs.
