At a recent Middlesex Kiwanis Club meeting, the guest speaker was Danielle Norris, director of the Compass Academy of Middlesex County Public Schools.
The mission of Compass Academy is to provide an alternative educational experience for Middlesex High School students who are at risk of not graduating from high school. At-risk does not necessarily mean that students are academically at-risk — it may be that the traditional educational setting isn’t compatible with their learning style.
The Compass Academy provides a personalized learning environment and academic instruction that is customized for each student and provides interventions that assist students as they find a purpose for their life. Compass Academy students may not be traditional learners, but they learn that they are smart and can achieve.
