Space tight at county shelter, foster homes needed for pets

This is one of last season’s foster kittens who was adopted into a loving home after spending three weeks in foster care. (Contributed)

by Cate Ogden –

So spring is finally here and we couldn’t be happier to greet April. The daffodils are in bloom, the ospreys have returned, soon the hummingbirds will show up and it is hoped we are all getting our vaccines. Although we must still take precautions, Mother Nature is showing us a promise of renewal. A big part of spring renewal is Mother Nature’s gift of kitten and puppy season. Middlesex Pet Friends for Life (MPFL) is hoping to have enough foster homes to care for all the new babies needing care.

It is MPFL’s sincere (we’re begging) hope that some of our fellow animal loving Middlesex neighbors will agree to become foster homes for either a pooch or a kitty. Fostering can be a gateway to adopting, allowing you insight into what it is like to be a fur baby parent.

MPFL will give training, supply all that is needed, take care of all expenses for your fosters and be ever so grateful that you have helped save a life. Fostering is not a long-term commitment and can be so much fun.

Some folks say they can’t foster because they could not give up the animal after falling in love with them. Yes, you may fall in love with your foster and that’s the kind of person that we want…

MPFL is a 501c3 all-volunteer organization. Donations may be sent to P.O. 145, Saluda, VA 23149 or made online with PayPal at http://middlesexpetfriends.wordpress.com — click on donate.
