Calvary Baptist throws drive-by birthday bash to mark 100th b’day of congregant

Calvary Baptist Church and the family of Lillian B. Washington conducted a drive-by 100th birthday party at Calvary for Mrs. Washington on Saturday. She was born March 23, 1921, daughter of George and Mary Elizabeth Braxton of Locust Hill and married Marquis Washington of Urbanna in 1947. She worked into her late 80s for Chesapeake Bay Aging as a certified nurse’s aid. A lifelong member of Calvary Baptist, she attended Mill Road (elementary) School near Locust Hill and the all-Black high school in Locust Hill. She lives today in her home at Cooks Corner. The parking lot at Calvary was filled with cars and people there to honor Mrs. Washington, who wore a crown. Most wore T-shirts displaying her image. (Photo by Larry Chowning)
