The Town of Urbanna is under a state mandate to drill two new wells in the next few years and will possibly be applying for grants to help pay for them.
On March 11, the town council voted to hire Bowman Consulting to research funding options for water infrastructure. The contract is for $6,900.
Bowman was the consultant for the Middlesex Water Authority, which in December 2020 began burying 42 miles of water pipes to deliver water to Topping and Deltaville.
The town council will be looking for grants and low interest loans to finance the well construction, as well as, improvements to the town’s water system.
Water committee chairman, town councilor Bill Smith, informed council that the town’s average household income appears to be low enough for the town to be eligible for grants and low interest loans.
In February, the town council approved a $15,000 contract with Kimley-Horn for engineering services for the proposed new wells…
