Tanner Johannsen finished second for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in the high jump at the 2021 Division III Elite Indoor Championships at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, on March 12. Johannsen has a Middlesex County connection — his parents are Leigh and Lori Johannsen of Hartfield.
Johannsen jumped 6’ 7” to tie Dazmond Lawrence of Adrian College. Lawrence won the event because Johannsen had more missed jumps. Johannsen entered the national competition as the fourth seed in the nation.
With the second place finish at the Division III national meet, Johannsen was named to the Division III All-American Indoor track and field team.
A 2017 Middlesex High School (MHS) graduate, Johannsen entered the coast guard in August…
