The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) approved on Feb. 2 to increase starting Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies’ salaries up to the current Mathews County starting pay providing the total amount of the expenditure does not exceed $50,000 per year.
Middlesex County deputies starting pay has been at $34,181 annually, while Mathews County starts at $42,900 annually. Middlesex currently has 10 deputies making less than Mathews County starting pay, said Maj. M.E. Sampson of the MCSO.
The supervisors voted 4-1 to spend up to $50,000 to get the 10 county law enforcement officers up to the starting range…
