Jesse, Williams vote against proposal to return windows to office complex building

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) voted 3-2 on Feb. 2 to accept a $830,761 bid to refurbish portions of the Cooks Corner Office Complex (CCOC) at Cooks Corner.
Trinity USA Contracting of White Stone was the low bidder and the board voted to award the firm the contract. The contract includes new heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and electrical service in the Tom Carter Memorial Gymnasium; new windows and doors in the Middlesex County Social Service (MCSS) board room; and gymnasium roof, door and window replacement.
MCBS Chairman Wayne Jessie and Harmony Village Representative Reggie Williams voted against approval of the bid. Jessie explained that he opposed spending the $22,627 part of the bid on two window sections in MCSS board room.
The CCOC building was originally the all-Black St. Clare Walker High School (1939-1969) and built with large glass metal frame glass windows installed throughout the building. The building was later used to house the integrated St. Clare Walker Middle School…
