Some are calling and hoping for it. Some don’t see how it will ever be possible. Unity.
The idea for unity among people is beautiful, but seemingly out of the realm of possibility. Can a nation, a people, a community, that is so diverse and divided on so many things come to a place of true unity?
I believe that it is possible.
Jesus prays a prayer in the gospel of John, chapter 17. Jesus prays for Himself, for his disciples, and for all those who will come to believe the message that they carry of who Jesus is and what He did.
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” (John 17:20-23)
Unity is a byproduct that happens when people believe the message…
