Taxaide packets now available

A Middlesex County Taxaide volunteer, right, assists a client during a session in the fellowship hall of Immanuel Baptist Church in Saluda this past summer. Following the March 2020 COVID-19 pandemic hit, it was the only site in Virginia that reopened before the July 15, 2020 filing deadline and used plastic shields and other special precautions. “Our volunteers just felt a special sense of obligation to those people who have depended on us year after year to prepare their taxes – we could not let them down,” said Middlesex Taxaide Coordinator Godwin Jones. For taxpayers who wish to have the Middlesex Taxaide prepare their taxes, packets may now be picked up at the Deltaville Public Library, the Cryer Center in Locust Hill or the Urbanna Public Library. Taxaide reps ask that you take only one packet for each tax return to be prepared.

The Taxaide program, sponsored by AARP Foundation in cooperation with the IRS, provides tax preparation service for taxpayers with low to moderate income. Membership in AARP is not required.

After gathering all forms and completing the information requested in the packet, the taxpayer may then call for an appointment at a special phone number that is in the packet instructions. Appointments will all be on Wednesdays and can include evenings for those who work during the day.

Taxpayers should bring all the packet contents plus all their tax documents…
