Firetrucks from near and far honored Grayson Shelton and his commitment to the Middlesex community in a memorial parade this morning, January 22, 2021 at 10 a.m.
Grayson Shelton, 16 years old, passed away early Monday morning suddenly after a lifelong battle with heart disease and other conditions. Grayson’s parents, Susan and Mark Shelton, were escorted from Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home in Saluda through Cooks Corner and onward to Urbanna where Grayson grew up and volunteered with the Middlesex Fire Department.
A large, beautiful American flag was displayed across from the Urbanna Fire Department to honor Grayson and his service.
The final stop was at Hermitage Baptist Church for graveside services where another large American flag was hung between two ladder trucks.
Many bystanders waved and saluted throughout the route and over 30 vehicles joined, in addition to Virginia state and local law enforcement. A VCU helicopter made a flyover to recognize the young man as well.
Grayson will be sorely missed and always remembered.
