The Urbanna Town Council will continue to meet remotely via Zoom meetings using computers and/or cell phones. Council and many other governmental bodies have been meeting virtually since April 2020 to maintain social distance and protocols to protect against COVID-19.
On April 2, 2020, council voted to meet remotely in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and recommendations by the state to maintain social distance.
At council’s Jan. 14 meeting Mayor Barbara Hartley proposed conducting in-person meetings, instead of meeting “virtually.” In July 2020, as a councilor Hartley was the lone vote against the motion to continue meeting remotely.
Last week Hartley’s suggestion to return to in-person meetings was not supported by council.
Councilor Merri Hanson, who moderated the Zoom meeting, told council 23 people were attending council’s meeting via computers.
Citizen attendance at in-person council meetings rarely exceeds a dozen.
