Big changes loom in town government

Urbanna administrator resigns

The Town of Urbanna government is about to undergo major changes.

Taking office on Jan. 1, 2021 will be a new mayor in Barbara Hartley. Also, three different town councilors will join three incumbents on council.

Absent on Jan. 1 will be Urbanna Town Administrator Holly Gailey, who tendered her resignation to council on Dec. 17.

Also departing will be zoning and planning director John Gill, who is retiring. Gailey’s and Gill’s actions take effect on New Year’s Day. They both started working for the town in 2012.

This week, Gailey spoke in a Sentinel interview about her decision to leave. She indicated that pressure from some council members pushed her to resign. Gailey said she has chosen to not work under the “leadership” that is about to take office…
