A host of fun new equipment totaling $30,000 awaits Urbanna children
by Tom Chillemi –
Urbanna’s playground in Taber Park reopened last week with five new pieces of equipment. The Urbanna Town Council invested $30,000 from Taber Fund money to refurbish the playground.
The rehabilitation includes adding certified engineered wood fiber for surface shock absorbency to cushion falls. Security cameras have also been installed.
The new “Sky-Run-Zip Track” is a miniature zip line and is a favorite for children 5-12 years of age.
The “Dragonfly See-saw” is a variation on the traditional see-saw. However, its up and down movement is dampened and controlled so it will not slam down.
The “Space Whirl” is a favorite activity of children. This merry-go-round is big enough for 10 children to enjoy the benefits of spinning play, including balance, coordination and spatial awareness, according to the website of Game Time, the manufacturer.
The “Merry-Go-All” is powered by the seated riders who grasp the center spin wheel to turn this modified merry-go-round.
The “Tilted Sky Runner” is a tilted version of an overhead spinning activity that allows children to experience the sensation of flight, states the Game Time website.
