The Eastern Middlesex Water System is moving full speed ahead. Construction began Dec. 1 with land clearing and the first sections of pipe were scheduled to begin being laid this week, starting just south of Urbanna where two deep wells are located.

Construction of most of the 43 miles of pipelines is expected to take about a year, said Greg Chambers, chairman of the Middlesex Water Authority (MWA).

Water lines will be run from the wells near Urbanna to Cooks Corner, and east on General Puller Highway (Route 33), north on Grey’s Point Road (Route 3) to Topping and Grey’s Point Camp, which will be a major water customer.

Discounted hook up fee

The MWA has lowered the water connection fee to $5,000 until Dec. 31. The subscriber agreement can be downloaded on the Middlesex County website under Middlesex Water Authority.

The water system has about 633 customers signed up.

Connecting to the water line is currently strictly voluntary…
